After the Theresa Janene caught on fire in 2013 and was extensively burnt while undergoing repairs, the purse seine is close to operate again in the Pacific Ocean. The vessel is being repair in Ensenada (Mexico) and MARCO will collaborate on the repair works by supplying a WS-484 purse seine winch. The new equipment will provide higher efficiency in fishing manoeuvre and allow a fast pursing in all sea conditions.
The WS-484 purse seine winch model is one of the most popular models of MARCO´s deck equipment catalogue. The equipment is driven by four double-speed vane motors and has a pulling capacity of up to 32 Tons. Two separate drives promote independent and precise purse line speed control between bow and stern purse drums, even during high load conditions and ring lifting operations. The new purse winch will provide higher versatility in manoeuvres and help to improve vessel´s tuna catches.
The Theresa Janene was the 2nd tuna vessel, after the Jeannine, to feature the classic 223' design from JM Martinac American shipyards. This type of tuna vessel dominated the American purse seine fleet during the 1970s and 1980s. The vessel was built in 1974 and originally named as Theresa Janene, although for a time it was renamed Capt. Isidore Duarte. The purse seiner is 68.1 meters long with a 12.8 meters beam and a fish hold volume of 1275 m3.
