UGAVI de Túnidos is finalizing the repair and maintenance program of one of its benchmark tuna vessels, the Jane IV. This project will allow the Spanish shipowner to certify the Jane IV purse seiner with AENOR´s “Responsible Tuna Fishing” certification. The project is being carried out at Nodosa Shipyards in the port of Marín (Spain) and MARCO has been selected to provide repair and maintenance services for Jane IV´s deck machinery, including vessel´s purse seine winch.
The existing purse seine model is a MARCO WS-484 winch, which has been in continuous operation for more than 11 years. This equipment was bought by the Spanish shipowner to replace the existing purse winch model when the vessel was acquired. Thanks to the acquisition of this new winch model, the Jane IV improved its versatility in maneuvers and increased its tuna catches. The equipment has been sent to TH COMPANY facilities in Munguía for review and application of the corresponding preventive maintenance actions, so the purse seiner winch continues to offer its maximum performance.
The Jane IV tuna vessel, originally known as Jane, was built in 1981 at the Peterson Builders Incorporated shipyards in the US. The purse seiner is 78.83 meters long, with a fish hold capacity of 1600 m3 and a 12.5 meters beam.
